Humble Ground Native Landscape + Garden Design
Design & landscape projects.
Ware St, Teesdale
The concept design for Ware St looked at developing a native style garden that would nurture local wildlife and provided a space for a young family to enjoy and explore. A space reflective of the Victorian high country where the family spent time camping.
The concept included a natural eco-system pond and creek, supporting wildlife and providing a beautiful oasis for the family to enjoy. The house is directly surrounded by a wildflower meadow featuring native wildflowers and grasses planted on mass. Grass has been incorporated sparingly to provide a connection between each space and a place for picnics and play. Other features include winding paths, fire pits, recycled wood seating, corten steel edging, and bluestone steppers. The design also considered and resolved stormwater management onsite with extensive grading of the site to capture stormwater run-off on site.
Plant selection included plants indigenous to the Western plains alongside other local natives suitable to the local climate. More experimental native plantings have included eucalypts from Western Australia & South Australia alongside a large array of native wildflowers and grasses.
Reynolds St, Winchelsea
Beautiful native habitat garden designed for nature and a young family. It features no-dig vegetable gardens, winding paths, a fire pit, and recycled wood seating and retaining walls alongside hidden sections of lawn for play & picnics.
The Design looked at creating a densely planted Australian native garden that provided a space for wildlife and the needs of a young, active family. Plant selection included plants indigenous to the Western plains and Otway foothills alongside other local natives suitable to the local climate.
Murrel St, Birregurra
Extensive natural habitat featuring winding paths, raised vegetable gardens, recycled timber seating, fire pit area and small sections of lawn for play & picnics.
The Design looked at creating a low-maintenance (dry-style) native garden with scattered plantings and natural forms. Features of the garden included a meandering natural pathway, raised corrugated vegetable gardens, an entertaining/seating area with two sections of grass for play & picnics, sleeper steps, timber retaining walls and recycled timber seating alongside a beautiful custom corten steel fire-pit.
The design looks at building up some areas in height to create some nice natural forms and a sense of privacy. Some sections will include feature retaining walls.
Plantation Drive, Connewarre
Natural coastal style front garden design featuring native grasses and wildflowers.
The project included the removal of the existing front garden to make way for a new design. The design featured two large natural-shaped mounds covered in crushed rock creating natural forms and secondly, the forms created privacy from the street frontage. Mounds were densely scattered with native grasses and wildflowers, leading to a large turf area edged with corten steel.
