Nature Stewards. Learn, Connect, Act.
Nature to me is so many different things, that in essence are all connected. Nature is everything. Nature is a playground, a place to explore, a place to see, listen and learn, a place to wonder. Nature is a place for native animals to live, for native trees to grow. Nature cares for and protects our environment. Nature is really everything.
In the past, I have volunteered for several mountain bikes clubs assisting in trail access advocacy alongside trail building, design, and maintenance. I am passionate about the environment and sustainability, from my own backyard (Indigenous native garden and vegetable garden) to exploring the wilderness (mountain biking, packrafting, trail running, foraging) to the wider community (re-generation of native habitats) to working in my business Humble Ground Native Landscapes & Garden Design on the beautiful Surf Coast in Western Victoria.
The Nature Steward program provided an opportunity to learn more abut my local environment alongside wider Victorian ecosystems. Spanning geology, soils, climate, fungi, plants, animals, conservation land management, volunteering and citizen science, and environmental interpretation, given from western and local Aboriginal community perspectives.
The course has expanded my knowledge and provided further tools to help me share and inspire others to care for, protect and engage with nature. It’s inspired me to help others restore native habitat residentially, commercially, publicly and agriculturally the creation of gardens, habitats and corridors, from little thing’s big thing’s grow.
